Political Philosophy for Florence "Flossie" Horgan
Candidate for |

Clean Water: I believe the Council vote approving the Poseidon desalination plant was irresponsible and shortsighted. Our ocean waters are precious, both for our physical health and because of economic benefits our ocean brings through tourism. This desalination plant will cost, not benefit, Huntington Beach. As co-founder of Bolsa Chica Land Trust, I know that we can maintain a healthy economy without selling our ocean to the highest bidder. Clean Government: A City Council member occupies the highest position of trust. Although our Councilmembers can annually accept $360 gifts per constituent, I will accept no gifts of any kind. My decisions will be based on facts presented, not on obligations to special interests. Clean Energy: blistering, record-breaking temperatures here and worldwide demonstrate that global warming is a fact. Huntington Beach can join 260 other communities and implement municipal strategies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by increasing energy efficiency, conservation, and by using renewable energy sources. We can save taxpayer dollars at the same time. |
