I BELIEVE ... I believe that all my behavior and actions must be respectful, honest, and ethical. I believe that elected public officials should be guided by commitment and integrity. The public trust must not be abused. I believe in observing both the letter and the spirit of the law. Work to change poor laws, but elected officials cannot just ignore them. I believe that elected officials represent all the residents, not just those who choose to support or vote for them. I believe in the power of three. The power of the city council lies in the collective will and decisions of the majority. Our society is based on the concept of majority rule as long as the rights of the minority are respected. I believe individual councilmembers have only the power of persuasion absent the direction of the council majority. I believe that I must be diligent in performing my elected duties. I must prepare for each meeting by reading and clarifying the issues and actions on the agenda prior to each meeting. I believe that community issues should be openly discussed. I will actively listen to the thoughts and opinions of others and be willing to change my opinion. I will express my thoughts and concerns during these discussions, guided by council policy and a sense of equity for all. I believe that all decisions must occur during public meetings. I will try to express the basis for my vote on important issues, Brown Act permitting. I believe that elected representatives should publicly debate issues vigorously, but acknowledge that once a majority vote has been taken, the issue is decided. I believe that the facts and discussions that occur in executive sessions must be kept confidential in accord with the law. I will not break a confidence nor share legally confidential information. I believe that it is a privilege to represent the citizens of La Palma and stand willing to accept this responsibility.

I view service on the city council as an opportunity to return something of value to my community as a member of the community. As such, I do not accept financial donations for my campaign, nor do I accept endorsements. Endorsements tend to limit an individuals freedom to change their mind and do not provide any substantial information about a candidate.
