The water district can not set or enforce zoning, that must be done by the agencies assigned to the task. We must all be committed to seeing that zoning is sensible and that zoning laws are enforced.
My wife and I have lived in a rural part of the district for 37 years. Our four children grew up here and we all love the closeness of nature. We have fought to preserve our rural setting and the environment. I am opposed to irresponsible development and was on the North Area Plan Committee which set guidelines for development in our area. The water district is unable legally to deny service to a development unless it can be proven that the water is not available. If it were to attempt to preempt the zoning process it would be sued and it would lose in court. There is enough water now to serve our present population and there will be enough water to serve the expected 92,000 residents who will live here when the district is built out in 2020. Zoning must be done by the agencies that were set up to do it, not by the water district. I will continue to fight to see that these agencies follow the area plans and that the development which is done is done right.
