Candidate for
Board Member; Kern High School District

My name is Mark Hutson and I am running for the Board of Trustees for the Kern High School District. I am 57 years old and have lived in Bakersfield since I was six months old. I graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1967, from Bakersfield College with an AA degree in 1970 and from Cal State Bakersfield with a BA in Sociology and a secondary teaching credential in 1973. I earned a Masters Degree in Educational Management from the University of La Verne in 2000. I am a product of our educational systems in Bakersfield and I am very familiar with our history. I have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly.
I am married to Teresa. We have been married for twelve years and we have two children, Justin (35) and Lindsey (23); and two grandchildren, Jada and Janae. We are a blended family.Teresa has been employed in the Kern High School District for over 27 years at one school, Foothill High School. She is currently Foothill's Activities Director. Justin is a BHS graduate and returned to coach and teach there for four years. Justin is now an assistant basketball coach at San Diego State University. Jada and Janae are his daughters. Lindsey went to Foothill with her mom and played volleyball. She also attended Bakersfield College and played volleyball for the Gades. She now works in the food service industry here in Bakersfield
