This information is provided by the candidate

Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy: Joel understands the importance of vocational education to our community and he has a serious plan to address this vital need. Our local businesses thrive on a skilled and knowledgeable workforce and with Joel's experience and strong business background, he will be our best advocate on the Kern High School Board.

Connie Wattenbarger, President, KHSD Board of Trustees: I am "retiring" from service on the KHSD Board of Trustees after twelve years. It has been a rewarding experience. I have met and worked with numerous fine students, parents, teachers, administrators, and Board members. One of those Board members was Joel -- who served with me from 1998 to 2000 before his business moved to the central coast. Joel was an outstanding board member. Please join me in supporting his election once again as a KHSD Trustee.

Larry Starrh, Vice-President KHSD Board of Trustees: Serving as a KHSD Trustee is an important and challenging commitment. We need experienced, capable Board members to fill the vacancies being created as a result of Connie Wattenbarger and I deciding not to seek re-election. Joel is a long time community volunteer, business executive, and former Trustee. Please join Connie and I in supporting his election.

Gene Voiland, CEO Aera Energy LLC: As Past President of the California Chamber of Commerce, I cannot emphasize how important it is that our high schools improve the career and technical skills of our young people. I very much support Joel's strong focus on improving our local vocational education programs and am pleased to support his candidacy for KHSD Trustee.

Mitch Olson, President, Kern High Faculty Association: Joel knows that second only to parents, teachers know best what students need to be successful in life. Joel will work closely with parents and teachers to provide the best education possible for the district's students.

Barbara Patrick, 3rd District Supervisor (Campaign Co-Chairperson): As a County Supervisor, and former school teacher, I am excited to support Joel's candidacy for KHSD Trustee. I have known and worked with Joel for many, many years. He is smart, hard working, and truly driven to improve our schools and community.

Don Murfin, Retired KHSD Superintendent (Campaign Co-Chairperson): I have known Joel since he was a student at South High School (when I was the school principal). He (and his wife Arlene Lozano Heinrichs) were positive student leaders then - and fine community leaders now. I do not know a single individual that possesses a better combination of experience, intellect, and passion for public education than Joel -- and I am very proud to support his candidacy.
