Larry came to Humboldt County in 1971 bringing a dedication to community service with him. Before moving north, Larry attended Los Angeles Valley College where he studied Police Science. After transferring to Cal State Los Angeles, he majored in Sociology. During college Larry worked at various radio stations including KFWB, Pasadena's first album rock station-KPPC, and KMET in Los Angeles.

In 1971 Larry was invited to move to Eureka and created a radio station KFMI, now known as Power 96.3. His love of music moved him and a group of friends to create The Works. The Works started in a living room on "M" street, but has since grown into two stores, one in Eureka's Old Town, and one in Arcata. The Works has been a staple in Humboldt County for over thirty-five years.

Larry's involvement with many community organizations reaches back to their inception. He spent eight years on the Eureka Business Improvement District Board, five as president and one and a half as Executive Director. Larry served for twenty-two years on the Board of Directors of the North coast Environmental Center (NEC), including fifteen years as President. He is currently the President of Safe Alternative Forest Environment (SAFE).

Larry has been a leader in the Old Town business community for three decades and has as acted as a spokesperson representing Old Town's small business owners. The Eureka City Council Chambers are familiar ground for Larry, who has spent many evenings addressing concerns of Old Town and the larger community. Larry has two children, both of whom were born and raised here. Both his son and daughter attended Eureka High School. His daughter Rose, currently a student at College of the Redwoods, continues in the family business helping her Dad out at both of his stores. Son Willie is assistant parts manager and performance consultant @ Lithia Dodge in Eureka.

A radio station brought Larry to Eureka, the unique community and the abundance of natural beauty have made the city his home. Larry believes that our city is at a nexus point- we can move forward with a level playing field, with fairness, justice and equality for all our citizens- rich or poor, old or young. Larry believes in a sustainable & locally based economy with an eye on keeping profits in the community where those dollars can be re-circulated instead of being exported to outside interests.
