Orange Cove Citizens For Honesty In Government

I am Manuel Ferreira; I am your Recycle Supervisor for the City of Orange Cove. I have worked for EOC-FLCC for eight years. I have reduced the products going to the landfills by 86%, far above the 50% reduction required by State Assembly Bill 939.

I have been a member of the Kings Canyon Unified School Board for the past seven years and was President of the Board for the new construction of our middle school, and Orange Cove High School. There had been no new schools built for forty years. We are continually upgrading education for Orange Cove's children.

I live in the City of Orange Cove, I have five children, all married and living in other parts of the state. I have sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. All of my spare time is donated to the community of Orange Cove.

I am running for your Mayor this four year term along with Jose A. (Tony) Rodriguez, and Irene Alvarado for City Council because our city needs new leadership. Our committee is called Orange Cove Citizens for Honesty in Government, and we can provide the new leadership our city requires. It is important that you vote for the three of us, as it will take the three of us working together to lead our city in a new direction. My running mates, candidates for City Counsel, Jose A. (Tony) Rodriguez, and Irene Alvarado have grown up in Orange Cove and are very aware of the issues that face our community, including our youth; they are willing and very capable of addressing these issues. The three of us together as a majority of the board can and will provide the new leadership our city so desperately needs, and is long overdue.

I believe in the hands on approach. I will not be running all over the country, or spending your money to do so. Grant Writers and other people will be hired to do this. I will take care of the needs and concerns of the City itself, such as Police protection, the Fire Department, gangs that have been running rampant, street repairs and local things that need every day care, such as more jobs, and term limits for mayor and council positions.

I was Director of Operations for Mattel Toy and other large companies for thirty five years, majoring in the pet industry (dog and cat supplies, and tropical fish), having over two hundred employees answering directly to me.

I also served in the Air Force and Marines for six years.

I have served on the following boards on a voluntary basis for the periods shown:

  • Target 8 Advisory Board, which regulates the operations of two local daycare centers, eight years.

  • Kings Canyon Unified School District, eight years, of which I served for one year as president.

  • Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District of Fresno County, nine years.

  • Sierra Kings District Hospital Foundation, one year.

  • Chafee Zoo Board, one year.

  • First Free Will Baptist Church, five years.

  • Chairman of Parks and Recreation (covering Easter egg hunt, Memorial day, Fourth of July fireworks, Halloween haunted house, Christmas tree lighting ceremony and festivities), eight years.

  • Advisor for Orange Cove Youth Center, three years.

  • Member of Red Cross Disaster Team, three years.

  • I am a member of the Orange Cove Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and the Lion's Club.

  • I was a volunteer school crossing guard at the busy intersection of South and Anchor, to ensure the safety of our children.

  • I was voted Man of the Year in 2004, by the Orange Cove Chamber of Commerce.

  • I was voted Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006 by Orange Cove High School.

I am a good listener, and will be listening to problems of the community.

Thank you, Manuel Ferreira
