Bob is Best for BrentwoodTue, Oct. 24, 2006 Vote Taylor for mayor THREE BRENTWOOD City Council members are vying to become the city's next mayor. Each has experience in dealing with the challenges facing Brentwood. They are Bob Taylor, Annette Beckstrand and Ana Gutierrez. The three also have similar priorities: improving traffic by widening Vasco Road and improving local streets; promoting commercial growth to attract well-paying jobs; improving fire protection; and preserving agricultural land. Any one of the three would be able to handle the job of mayor, represent the people of Brentwood and work on issues that are important to city residents. Taylor, 62, has been a farmer and businessman in Brentwood for many years and is the council representative for the League of California Cities and the council liaison for the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee. Beckstrand, 43, is a homemaker who has served on the council for nearly six years. She is on the regional transportation committee, working to improve Highway 4 and Vasco Road. Gutierrez, 27, is vice mayor of Brentwood, chairwoman of the Habitat Conservation Program and an English teacher at Liberty High School. She decided to run for mayor at the last minute after dropping a bid to run for governor of California. On balance, we believe that Taylor has the broadest and longest experience working in Brentwood and is the best choice for mayor. Brentwood is a growing city that needs to establish a better job climate, which relies in large part on improving Highway 4 and Vasco Road. Brentwood residents also want to maintain the rural nature of their city and to have local control over the fire district. Taylor is in a good position to make progress on the things that are important to the people of Brentwood and has earned their trust and support to be the city's next mayor. |
