As of November 6, five letters have been printed supporting Greg Enholm for College BoardContra Costa Times, Sunday, October 15, 2006, Perspective Section ELECT ENHOLM In my eight years teaching at Los Medanos College, we've had good and bad times. As the current president of the academic senate, I regularly interact with faculty and administrators across the county. From 1995 to 2004, then-Chancellor Charles Spence, with the approval of the five-member elected college board, made many decisions that harmed the district. The board finally forced Spence to resign. Now Contra Costa voters can elect a new person to the college board who won't need to defend past mistakes: Greg Enholm for Ward 3 (Concord, Martinez, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Pacheco). Enholm is endorsed by Sen. Tom Torlakson, Assembly nominee Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier, Concord Mayor Susan Bonilla, the college faculty union, and Public Employees Union, Local One and many other elected officials. Enholm will be a conscientious, dedicated and thoughtful board member. He will help increase enrollment. He will be the only current teacher on the board. Also, he will be the only board member who has 20 years of experience as a financial analyst. For more information, visit Enholm's Web site: http://www.gregenholm.org. Erich Holtmann, Concord 1111111111 Letter to the Editor, Contra Costa Times, October 22, 2006 Perspective Section NEW CCCCD BOARD The Contra Costa Community College District recently employed a new chancellor and new administrators in efforts to revitalize the district. Now is the time for voters to elect new board members to work with that new administration. As a 20-year district faculty member, I can say that the district has weathered some difficult times, but with new board members to join the new administrators, the district seems ripe for positive change. Both the faculty and classified staff are supporting candidates Greg Enholm in Ward 3 and Frank Quattro in Ward 4. No strangers to local education, Enholm is a former Los Medanos College student, and Quattro received his associate's degree from Diablo Valley College. Enholm teaches high school and prepares students for the CCCCD colleges. Both vow to serve students' best interests, to ensure fiscal responsibility and to hire and retain excellent faculty. What more could we want? In addition to the faculty and classified unions' endorsements, Enholm is endorsed by Sen. Tom Torlakson and Assembly nominee Mark DeSaulnier, while Quattro has endorsements from educators, business and community leaders. Vote for Enholm and Quattro. Launch the Contra Costa District on a new path to success. Barbara Sawyer, Oakland 2222222222 Letter to the Editor, Contra Costa Times, October 29, 2006 Perspective Section OUT WITH INCUMBENTS I urge voters to pay attention to the little races in this election, the ones that do not make the headlines. One race where your vote can make a difference is for the Contra Costa Community College District Governing Board. As a faculty member of Diablo Valley College since 1984, I urge you to vote the incumbents out and new leadership in. The current board put our three-college system through a demoralizing and divisive contract negotiation process, which resulted in staff and faculty accepting severe pay cuts. When the faculty voted to accept a 6.5 percent pay cut, the board applauded the faculty, thanked us for putting the needs of students first by avoiding a strike, and commended us for taking the fiscally responsible course to help our financially strapped institution. Within a year, this same board voted themselves two years of 5 percent raises. The 1,450 faculty members did not make headlines when we avoided a strike, but we are suffering from the pay cuts and low morale created by our current board. Help us clean house and rebuild by voting for Greg Enholm and Frank Quattro for the CCCCD board. Ellen Krause, Orinda 3333333333 Letter to the Editor, Contra Costa Times, October 29, 2006 Perspective Section MAKING COMMUNITY LINK As a three-year Pacheco resident and a two-year Pacheco Municipal Advisory Council member, I've endorsed Greg Enholm for election to the Contra Costa Community College District governing board, Ward 3. Enholm was a financial analyst before taking early retirement to become a math teacher for the past eight years. Enholm made a presentation to the PMAC on October 11, where he pledged to keep us informed about college district activities. I appreciate him caring that Pacheco residents be aware of what the districts colleges offer. His opponent, an eight-year incumbent, has not to my knowledge made a similar presentation. I urge voters both in Pacheco and in other Ward 3 areas (Concord, Martinez, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek) to elect Greg Enholm. He is endorsed by State Senator Tom Torlakson and candidate for assembly Mark DeSaulnier and the mayors of Concord and Pittsburg. Douglas W. Stewart, Pacheco Stewart is PMAC co-chairman, Pacheco Town Council vice president and community watch captain/spokesperson 4444444444 Contra Costa Times, Monday, November 6, 2006 Vote for Enholm I am a high school English teacher who graduates dozens of students every year who then go on to attend the Contra Costa College District campuses. I have known Greg Enholm for five years, and I will be voting for him for the college Board of Directors. I know Greg Enholm to be a passionate advocate for the best quality education for our young people. He understands the value of quality classroom instruction because he has been a high school math teacher for 8 years. Additionally, he has 20 years of experience as a financial consultant. These are always good qualities, but they are especially important to the challenges that face our college campuses now. Do our young people a favor and yourself a favor in the bargain. Vote for Greg Enholm. Steve McCoy, Pleasant Hill 5555555555 |
