Candidate Statement

I have proudly served students as an educator, administrator and school board member. For the past 9 years on the Board of Education, I have focused on Rigor, Reform, Responsibility and Results. All children have benefited; and success can be seen in many ways.

Students are achieving as never before and more are prepared for college and careers. Graduation rates are rising, and an increased number of students are taking college prep and honors classes. Career course offerings are growing and more students are taking advantage of them; schools show steady API score improvements; and more schools are recognized as distinguished at the state level.

A balanced budget has been achieved every year I served as board member. This past year, a financial officer has been added to ensure fiscal solvency in the future. Large cuts were made recently to balance the budget; but with increased state funding, I voted to restore music, librarians, custodians and essential school staff.

Significant investments have been made to improve school facilities bringing classrooms to 21st century standards; creating new technology centers; expanding the use of computers; and leveraging your local investment by adding $100M in state funds toward upgrading our schools. I also continue to insist that all schools be safe and drug free.

Attracting and retaining highly qualified teachers and staff is of utmost importance to school success. That is why providing competitive employee compensation, while remaining fiscally responsible, is a priority to me as is maintaining long-term agreements with all employee bargaining units.

Challenges still remain. I have the track record, experience and leadership skills necessary to stay focused on results. I want to continue to serve our children so please support my re-election to the Mt. Diablo School Board. Remember: Rigor, Reform, Responsibility = Results. Vote for incumbent Dick Allen.
