|
ANDY KATZ is an environmental planner for a public health nonprofit organization and is also a community liaison for Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson. Katz earned a masters' degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley and is running to represent Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, El Cerrito, Kensington, and part of North Oakland on the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) board, which provides clean, affordable, and reliable water to 1.3 million customers in the East Bay. He will: 1) protect our drinking water quality, 2) help restore our environment by strengthening incentives for water conservation, and 3) increase awareness about the impacts climate change will have on our water. An environmental advocate and eight-year resident of Berkeley, Andy Katz is a member of the Sierra Club Northern Alameda County Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the Sierra Club California Legislative Committee. Katz has worked over the last decade at the regional level to stop sprawl and protect open space in the Bay Area. As a five-year member of the Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board, Katz has supported infill housing development along commercial streets, and he co-authored a regional policy that encourages housing and shops near transit stations and helped support urban limit lines in Alameda and Contra Costa County. He supports maintaining the current ultimate service boundary, which helps keep sprawl in check by focusing on infrastructure upgrades, including seismic upgrades, recycled water, and replacement of aging pipes. |
