Accademic Proficiency.

My commitment to student success is foremost. Basic skills, bridging the achievement gap, vocational training and college preparation must be our priority. I support academic programs the recognize diverse learning styles among today's students.

Fiscal Accountability.

Balancing competing needs with available resources, while ensuring quality programs and services, is always a challenge. This requires constant re-evaluation of priorities, strategic planning, efficient enrollment management, and fiscal discipline.

Safe Schools.

It is our responsibility to provide our students a safe and nurturing learning environment. Through strong parental involvement and collaboration among all stakeholders that include students, faculty, staff, school administrators, city officials, business and civic leaders, this can be accomplished.

NEW HAVEN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD CANDIDATE'S BALLOT STATEMENT November 7, 2006 Election

GERTRUDE Q. GREGORIO Occupation: College Dean

Education:

  • Harvard University, Management Development Program

  • University of San Francisco, Master of Arts, Educational Administration, Organization and Leadership

  • University of the Philippines, Bachelor of Science

Public education is the focus of my profession. For 26 years, I have worked for a community college district, initially as a classified employee. Since 1997, I have served as Dean, in charge of academic programs, support services, personnel and budget. Hiring, and retaining, qualified and dedicated faculty, staff and administrators are essential. Enrollment management and developing a diverse program that provides exponential learning experience for today's students require new approaches.

I am running for the New Haven Unified School District Board to join the team you have empowered to teach, nurture and inspire Union City youths. My credentials have prepared me for this responsibility. As a 21-year resident of Union City, parent and active member of worthy organizations, I want to represent your children and our community in the NHUSD.

We share a common goal: to adequately prepare our children to be productive, responsible and successful citizens. College preparation, vocational training, basic skills, and addressing achievement gaps are all priority. Let's continue the legacy of excellent education from our "Distinguished" district through shared governance and collaboration.

GERTRUDE GREGORIO will bring new energy and experienced voice in NHUSD.

Thank you for your vote.
