I believe that I have much more everyday real `on the job' experience, background and qualifications for this current Ohlone Community College District (OCCD) Board position.
GIOVANNINI-HILL FOR OHLONE FPPC#1288974

I believe that I have much more everyday real `on the job' experience, background and qualifications for this current Ohlone Community College District (OCCD) Board position.

My 36 YEARS working full time within various units at California State University, East Bay every day has put me in a hands on role with knowing what students and parents want and need. [I also worked as a Student Assistant in the Library at College of San Mateo for two years in the late 60's.]

My 6 YEARS teaching at Heald Business and Tech College in Hayward has provided me the additional experience of academic preparation from a FACULTY perspective.

My 26 YEARS on and off being a `first generation college student' at several institutions (College of San Mateo, Chabot College, and Cal State East Bay) before earning three degrees (A.A. CSM 1969; B.A. 1990 CSUEB/Hayward; and an MPA 1993 CSUEB/Hayward) have provided me the perspective of college students in different decades and within the scope of PUBLIC education as a STUDENT.

My 11 YEARS as a parent of four college students (all of my children have attended, graduated from, and/or are now attending OC) has given me a PARENTS perspective of what young college students are facing today. My husband has also returned to Ohlone College (OC) in the last year to continue studies in a new discipline. I understand the changing needs of college students today as our Bay Area population ages, and the variety of opportunities we need to cultivate within our local Community College District to remain competitive in the marketplace.

I have spent nearly four decades working and living within ACADEMIC environments on an every day basis and from almost any angle you can imagine. I work with students, families, employers and administrators every day.

As a University STAFF employee and Administrator, FACULTY member, STUDENT, ALUMNI, and PARENT of college students--I have seen, experienced, witnessed, participated in and lived the academic life inside and out of the `college experience' available today. I have seen what works and what does not, in many cases first hand within this environment in the classroom and on campus. Let me utilize my decades of experience to take the Ohlone College Board to the next level.

I believe I have the PASSION for this job, and the interest, knowledge, inspiration and vision to make a positive difference on this Board at this time.

I will be a VOICE for inclusiveness and positive dialogue in all matters that the Board touches.

I will be a COMMUNITY PARTNER for the OCCD in communicating the benefits of what Ohlone College employees and students can do for the community, and especially vice versa.

I will BUILD BRIDGES for the OCCD where none or few exist in the community and academia.

This Board needs Trustees with a current day ACADEMIC background, understanding and inside PUBLIC higher education experience, and the proven knowledge and connections to advance the direction of the College and the Board.
