Education

I am endorsed by the United Teachers of Los Angeles. I will fight for additional funding for education to reduce class sizes and provide adequate text books and resources for the classroom. I support providing resources for continued staff development and training for teachers.

Health Care

I am endorsed by the California Nurses Association. I support the plan to provide free healthcare to all Californians under the age of 19 and Sen. Kuehl's plan for universal healthcare coverage. I will advocate for safeguards to prevent medical facilities from closing; i.e. King Trauma Center, RFK Hospital, and Centinela Pediatric Center.

Economic Development

I will work with the business community to create a positive working environment that would help to attract and retain businesses and jobs in the State. We cannot afford to lose another Nissan.

Public Safety

I am endorsed by local law enforcement. I will fight to increase funding for public safety to ensure that our communities and schools are safe. I support expanding the Gang Alternative Program (GAP) to all area 4th graders to make sure our children stay out of gangs. In Gardena, I was able to add 20 officers to the force.

Affordable Housing

I will work with labor and community organizations to create affordable housing for working class families. I will work to make available underutilized buildings and state land for affordable housing.

Illegal Immigration

I know that this is ultimately an issue that the federal government has control over, but that does not let the State Assembly off the hook. I support legal immigration, but do not support the plan to turn illegal immigrants and those who help them into criminals. I support the United States' Senate plan which would create a path for those who are now working in our country to gain citizenship.

Senior Citizens

On the Gardena City Council, I expanded the Meels-on-Wheels program and the Handyworkers' Program which helps with home repairs for seniors on fixed income. I will fight to reduce the cost of prescription drugs and will work to ensure that seniors have access to the services they need.
