Why the Auburn Dam is important

Had the Auburn Dam been built, during the original discussions in the 1960's. Today we'd have a dam, and we wouldn't be running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to figure out how to patch and paste levee's together.
We can continue down this road for another 40 years. Every rainy season, we'll be talking about patching the levee's once again. And you don't have to go to Washington, D.C. to KNOW that the dam should be built. You can stand on the levees in the Sacramento area and KNOW that the dam should be built.

Arco Arena

In 1997, I filed a legal action against taxpayers funding, then current owner Jim Thomas's loan with the city, which was backed by the taxpayers. I did not believe taxpayers should subsidize millionaires then, and I am still of the same opinion.
I was not opposed when land owners in the Natomas area, were willing to subsidize a new arena (the Lou Blanas Plan).
In this approach it was not taxpayers monies that were being spent, it was an individuals choice with what they wanted to do with the profits of the sales of their properties. Part of everyone's American dream is to someday invest in an arena.

Teachers

At the start of this race I was interviewed by a Teachers organization. They explained to me that young teachers, like young police officers, deputies, and young firefighters cannot afford to buy residences within proximity of where they teach and work.
It was at this time that I decided, that if I was elected to the Board of Supervisors, I would suggest an innovative process through which these young people, could be afforded the ability to buy a residence. It is as follows:
-Land Developers in the county, are sometimes stymied by the slow process in going from purchasing land to subdividing and developing the land.
-Land purchased, in there after subdivided, increases greatly in value.
My thought was that these developers would contribute a small percentage of their profit, i.e. 2 or 3 percent, into a fund from which monies could be drawn, by young teachers, deputies, police officers, and firefighters. Who would use this money to supplement the ability to purchase homes within the county or the city of Sacramento.
Obviously the homes would be located in close proximity for teachers to the schools they teach at, and for the other individuals along the same guidelines.
I've always thought it important that school children be able to see peoples in these fields as their neighbors, friends, and role models.

Development

I see further development in Sacramento as a positive. New development does bring in additional financial responsibilities for the county. But it also brings in new monies from the fees charged to these new developments. A vacant field that was once cultivated, can have homes built on it, which bring in additional tax monies, employees for local companies, and many other positive factors.
I am in total disagreement with individuals that want to make further development in Sacramento County sound like a bad word.
I am also totally opposed to individuals who file stalling and frivolous lawsuits to hamper development in the county.

If elected Supervisor of district 2 not only will I look out for the public safety of the district but of the whole of Sacramento county. Give me your vote, on June the 6th and I will prove to you that you made the right decision. Remember, government is many times too important to leave to the politicians.
