1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)
|
Answer from Dennis Helmick:
I have been an attorney for 34 years; extensive trial experience with Prosecutor's Office and Special Counsel to the Attorney General. I was elected twice to Municipal Court in 1989 and 1995, elected to Common Pleas in 2000. I bring more than 16 years judicial experience to this election.
2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)
|
Answer from Dennis Helmick:
I take an active role in managing my docket. All trial judges have experienced an increase in their caseload over the years, and I actively engage in plea negotiations in criminal cases and promptly issue decisions in civil cases.
With more than 50% of crime being statistically related to substance abuse, we must continue to expand our treatment programs and seek additional fundings for them.
There are certain criminal and civil cases which must be resolved by trial. Trial judges should arrange their docket so that these cases are not needlessly continued, thereby inconveniencing litigants and their attorneys.
