Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Culver City

In April, 2002, Gary Silbiger was elected to the City Council of Culver City. In 2005, Gary was unanimously selected by his colleagues to serve as Culver City's Vice Mayor. Throughout his first term, Gary has focused on 5 primary priorities:
- Safety and Security
- Community Services for All Culver City Residents
- Transportation and the Environment
- Making Culver City a Destination and
- Opening Up City Government

In less than 4 years, Gary has worked diligently with his colleagues, Culver City's elected representatives at the County, State, and Federal Level, and the community to enact significant improvements in each of these areas. Gary has gained a reputation as a Community Advocate due to his efforts to get people more involved in the decision-making process.

Gary's unique background as a business owner, teacher, lawyer, and 30-year community leader has made him an effective member of the Council. A graduate of California State University at Los Angeles, and Southwestern University School of Law, Gary has co-owned and managed his own law firm, the Law Offices of Silbiger and Honig, for over 25 years, with his office currently in Culver City. He specializes in using his law skills to help the needy, focusing on immigration law.

In 1972, Gary received the Southwestern University School of Law's Outstanding Student of the Year Award and in 1991 Gary was awarded the Carol King award as the leading immigration attorney in the United States. In addition, Gary has written and published a leading immigration law book, and has taught law at the University of Southern California (USC), Whittier College of Law, and the People's College of Law. In addition to his law practice, Gary also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Santa Monica College.

Gary's involvement in Culver City began in 1986 when he and his wife, former School Board member Barbara Honig, moved their family to Culver City. This has included:
- Serving as a member of Congresswoman Diane Watson's 33rd Congressional District Community Advisory Committee and Assemblymember Karen Bass' Environmental Task Force
- Being appointed by the City Council to serve as an Ambassador to the Strategic Planning and Visioning Project
- Volunteering as an Attorney for the Culver City Senior Center and the Culver City Middle School Mock Court Class
- Serving as a Member of the Culver City Unified School District's Strategic Planning Committee
- Coaching Youth Baseball, Basketball, and Soccer teams for the Culver-Palms YMCA
- Helping our schools as a member of the El Marino School Site Council and as a leader on the Measure T School Bond Campaign Committee and
- Participating in many Culver City Civic Organizations including the Culver City Democratic Club, the Culver City Friends of the Library, the Friends of the Culver City Dog Park, the Friends of the Culver City Animals, the Culver City Sister City Committee, and Together.

In addition to serving as a member of the City Council, Gary proudly serves as:
- Culver City's representative on the Exposition Light Rail Board of Directors
- An active member of Culver City's Homeless Committee
- The initiator and a member of Culver City's Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee
- A member of the City Council / School Board Liaison Committee and
- An organizer of Fiesta La Ballona

Gary currently resides in the Carlson Park neighborhood of Culver City with his wife, Barbara Honig, and his dog, Molly. Gary's son, Karlo, is a teacher in Massachusetts and his daughter, Tania, attends the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
