Health and Safety for the Santa Clarita Valley

By Dwight P. McDonald

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Santa Clarita

This information is provided by the candidate
There's only one hospital in the Santa Clarita Valley, and it does not meet the needs of maturing city. Santa Clarita needs another full service hospital central to the entire valley.
Health and Safety is critical to the future of Santa Clarita, and the population growth that is right on the heels of development could overpower the city. If we don't plan for the future, and look further ahead, learning from our past, the people of Santa Clarita will in a position of unacceptable emergency medical services.

With the population explosion to the north, east, and west of this city, people are going to need medical services. The proposed expansion of the only hospital in the City, is not a fix. This City needs another major full service hospital that is central to the entire city, and planned for dealing with the numbers of emergency response from inside or outside the city limits.

In the event of a catastrophic disaster, or a major medical demanding incident, the only emergency medically ready facility is the overtaxed, Henry Mayo Hospital, located on the west side of the City. There needs to be another fully operational emergency medical facility, and desirably, a trauma center, located more to the center of the City Limits. This city has grown, the numbers have increased, and medical clinics have become established, but another hospital is needed, and it's needed now.
