Candidate for
City Attorney; City of Long Beach

Michael Emling was born and raised in Long Beach has lived here most of his life. He graduated with honors from University of San Francisco School of Law in May of 1985, and was admitted to practice in December of the same year.

He worked as a Deputy City Attorney in San Diego, and then returned to Long Beach to enter private practice. His early years of practice included general tort defense, insurance coverage work, and the defense of governmental entities, including civil rights, inverse condemnation, zoning and land use issues. In 1995, he started his own firm practicing civil law, consisting mostly of business litigation, including patent, copyright, trademark, and entertainment matters.

He serves on the board of the Long Beach Boy Scouts, and is the assistant scoutmaster of the oldest troop in Long Beach.
