Political Philosophy for Eileen C. Ruby

My first priority is to provide a quality education for every student The most crucial component of a good education is a good teacher. The Piedmont School District needs to support opportunities for professional development, and pay enough to attract and retain the best teachers. At the same time, it's important to offer a wide variety of programs so we can serve every kind of student at every level. The district just announced a major reorganization that will include the following positions - Assistant Superintendent for Education Services, Director of Student Support Services, Director of Alternative Education and Curriculum Coordinator. This will allow us to focus more attention on our educational program to better serve the needs of all of our students. Second, we have to exercise fiscal restraint and maintain a prudent reserve. That means balancing priorities, and making difficult choices. Finally, we have to ensure the safety of children and staff in our school buildings, and safeguard the quality of our children's education during the seismic risk reduction construction process. The decisions the school board makes about both of these things will need to be informed by significant input from parents and community members. |
