Solving the abortion question without politicians...

By Bruce D. Cohen

Candidate for United States Representative; District 48

How Libertarians would address the abortion question:
Libertarians feel societal problems are best solved privately and voluntarily, by individuals and families.

Under what system will there be less adoptions? Illegal or legal abortions?

Under what system will there be more or less abortions?

In both cases, the goal of having less abortions and more adoptions is best served by abortion being legal.

When politicians get involved, the situation gets worse.

When abortions are illegal, adoptions decrease. The danger to the health of expectant mothers goes up as well.

When abortions are illegal, they are done in secret. This reduces the opportunity for outreach to the pregnant mother and father.

With this out in the open, opportunities for outreach to women with unwanted pregnancies are much, much better.

If we want to protect pregnant women and their babies, if we are sincere about reducing abortions and having adoption used more often; we must keep let families and churches guiide this and not politicians.

I would like to see abortions reduced and see more childless parents adopt. Let's create more opportunities for people to share ideas and solutions to this problem.

Let us address the this so we make the situation better.

A simple and fair solution would be the following. First trimester, voluntary. Second trimester, for health issues for mother or child. Third trimester, only to save a life. No partial birth abortions.

However, states ought to make these choices without the Federal Government getting involved.

Let's not spend tax money paying for abortions. Let's not spend tax money preventing them, or putting people in jail for having providing them.
