Local IssuesBy Steve SkinnerCandidate for Council Member; City of Half Moon Bay | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Half Moon Bay is a small town where one person can make a difference. I am that person. As a City Council member I will use my energy, experience and skill to build consensus and a path to the future for our community.SCHOOLS Steve is an energetic participant in our public school community on a daily basis. He is the only candidate with children currently in our local public school system. As a concerned parent and community leader he will work together with our school district to move ahead with construction of our new Middle School and Boy's and Girl's Club without further delay. SAFETY Steve believes that pedestrian and highway safety are two of the most important issues facing our citizens on a day-to-day basis. Many of our citizens cross Hwy. 1 on foot and on bicyles going to work and school, day and night. He feels very strongly that we must continue to make safety improvements such as traffic speed controls and alternative pathways so that our pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists can move about the community in a safe and controlled fashion. PLANNING Steve works as a Realtor with Alain Pinel Realtors in Half Moon Bay and San Mateo and has a professional background in Architecture and Urban Planning and. As a Realtor, Steve appreciates the importance of Property Rights neighborhood-specific issues related to planning and zoning. He is on the Architectural Review Committee and is very involved in the Local Coastal Plan update process as well. CHALLENGES This unique professional background and experience enables him to grasp the challenges of planning for our community. Unlike other candidates, Steve is not burdened by the legacy of the past. Unfortunately many of the developer lawsuits facing the City today could have been avoided by better planning and decision making ten years ago or more. CONCLUSION Finding a balance between private property rights, land use, infrastructure and coastal conservation requires that we make intelligent, informed decisions at the local level. Steve believes that our community dialogue needs to be conducted in the open with fairness, honesty and full opportunity for public input and participation. As a candidate for City Council, Steve brings a fresh, energetic new voice to this important dialogue about our future. Thank you for your support and your vote. |
