John has a proven record of accomplishment for Burlingame:
John is a founding board member of the Burlingame Library Foundation which since 1995 has raised over $1 million for facilities, programs, technology and materials for our nationally recognized Burlingame libraries.
John's leadership on the Burlingame School Board was instrumental in setting the way for the first successful bond/parcel tax election in California resulting in:
- the modernization of our five schools,
- the support of library, physical education and music programs for our children
During John's time on the Burlingame School Board:
- Two of our Burlingame schools were named distinguished schools by the state of California.
- Burlingame Intermediate School was included in the top 25 middle schools in the United States in planning for the future.
- Child care programs were begun in each of our elementary schools.
John is uniquely qualified to lead our City:
- Burlingame homeowner for 28 years.
- General Manager of the Cow Palace (1976-1987).
- General Manager of the San Mateo County Expo Center (1987-2003).
- Burlingame Library Foundation, founding board member, current advisor to the Foundation (1995-present).
- Burlingame Elementary School Board Trustee, two terms, two years as President (1983-1991).
- Burlingame Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (1997-2002).
- Burlingame Community for Education Foundation Board (BCE) (1992-1995).
- Burlingame Train Station Centennial Celebration Committee member (1993-1994).
- Mills-Peninsula Senior Focus Board (2004-present).
- San Mateo County Board of Education Trustee, two terms, one year as President (1995-2004).
- Member Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) advising the San Mateo City Council on elements to be included in the rail corridor specific plan (2001-2004).
- Greater San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, one year as President (1990-2003).
- "Leadership San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame and Hillsborough" founding Board member. During John's presidency (2000-2001), the Youth Leadership program was formed and continues successfully today serving Burlingame and San Mateo high school students (1994-present).
- Western Fairs Association (WFA) Board of Directors, one year as President (1990-2000). WFA is a trade association representing fairs from the western United States and Canada.
- International Association of Assembly Managers, District Vice President (1998). John represented California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, Australia and the Pacific Rim.
