A Summation of What I Have Accomplished for BurlingameDear Burlingame Voter, As you know, I am your current City Council member, past mayor, and have committed 16 years to serving this great community. The job is not done. There are challenges ahead that must be met to ensure that our quality of life is maintained here and that is why I am seeking re-election on November 8. Your vote is more important this year than ever before. This election is unprecedented in Burlingame history with seven candidates running for three (four-year) seats and two non-incumbents vying for a two-year seat on the City Council. The future direction of the city will be shaped by the outcome in November. I consider myself a centrist who brings balance to the debate on tough issues and will work hard to keep Burlingame from veering off in the wrong direction. While listening to ideas for change, I will not be supporting measures that could polarize the community. Experience and leadership make a difference and those are two key elements that separate the candidates in this race! I am running on my record of performance while presenting a clear vision for Burlingame's future. Please compare the candidates as there are certainly clear choices this year! I am asking for your vote on November 8, 2005. You are a citizen who cares deeply about Burlingame, about its ambiance, economic vitality, and the future well-being of the community as a whole. When making policy decisions on the Council, I do so with the intent of bettering the quality of life for all who live and work here, for homeowners and renters alike, employers and businesses that serve the public. Unlike some communities on the peninsula that have turned to parcel tax measures as a means of maintaining basic services, we have been able to weather the storm through tough economic times. As Mayor in 2000, I led our Council to dedicate reserve accounts, making it possible to sustain an adequate level of police service and hours of operation of our city libraries, to mention only two examples of where priorities have been set and prudent spending decisions have been made. The Council's decision in 2004 to merge its fire service with Hillsborough has saved the city about $1 million annually. Please take a minute to check this list of accomplishments where I took leadership and helped make things happen.
