As a Belmont native of 38 years, I am fully vested in both preserving Belmont's current appeal, as well as bolstering its economic success through continuing to help it become a city that businesses and people seek out, stay and thrive. My commitment to advancing the economic, professional, cultural, and civic welfare of the city is made evident by the positions I have already held in the city of Belmont. As co-Chair of the Urban Design Committee and as a contributing editor of Belmont's Community Visioning in 2003, I actively reinforced the need to develop a downtown of consequence. Some of the ideas that I proposed during the visioning process included creating parking districts (more public parking) and expanding the downtown concept to include two locations - the Ralston at El Camino Real area and the Carlmont Shopping Center. Through my three year term and current role as Vice Chair of the Planning Commission, I have made it my commitment to position Belmont as a city that supports the needs of its citizens and businesses, while also remaining mindful to the needs of the community. For example, as Chair of the Permit Efficiency Task Force (2005), I am working with the committee on delivering recommendations for an up to date efficient process. Additionally, in my role as Sterling Downs Neighborhood President (2001-present), I have consistently worked to support a safe, clean neighborhood; I lobbied City Council on behalf of the Neighborhood Association to address neighborhood issues such as traffic calming and the need for Façade Improvement and increased Code Enforcement education. In addition to my roles within the City of Belmont, my experience directing new business and operations for technology companies as well as my managerial and operational experience during my 18 years within the hospitality industry, all position me well for the role of City Council Member. Outstanding issues I will address include; Fire Department, Economic Development Plan, Belmont Visioning Plan, Redevelopment Resources, Education Funding, City Hall Staffing, Pedestrian Access over the freeway on Ralston, Traffic Planning, and all that will affect Belmont. As a Council member I will look out for the best interest of the residents and businesses of Belmont; by making sure we have the services delivered that our taxes pay for. I am always available at 650.593.3940 or bill@billforcouncil.com
