Ballot StatementBy Maria Diaz-SlocumCandidate for Board Member; Redwood City School District; 4 Year Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
This is the Ballot Statement that is included in the Sample Ballot mailed to all registered voters of the Redwood City School District. When elected four years ago, I promised to improve academic achievement, strengthen public confidence in our schools, and increase parental involvement. I worked hard to achieve those goals, and we have made significant progress. Test scores are up, we have hired credentialed teachers, maintained lower class size, and improved facilities. We are also creating community schools in partnership with Stanford University. While we should be proud of our accomplishments, there is much to be done. One of the most important tasks is managing district finances. We must continue to ensure fiscal solvency. Exploring initiatives like merging expensive functions with other school districts can create additional savings. Money saved can go back into our classrooms. Every student is important. Working together, we can make sure all students are challenged to their full potential, and continue moving forward to excel academically. It has been an honor serving as a Redwood City School District Trustee and President of the Board. I have enjoyed listening and responding to our community's ideas and concerns. I have kept my promises. I bring leadership you can count on and experience where it matters. I ask for your vote. Feel free to contact me at mdslocum@comcast.net. Thank You! |
