An Important ElectionBy Gerry B. AndeenCandidate for Member; Menlo Park Fire Protection District | |

Protect the public interest in these lean years and plan for the future.Make no mistake, this election for the Menlo Park Fire Protection District is important. There are nine candidates, including two incumbents, running for three seats indicating that something is happening. That happening is that we are in the lean years. Resources are scarce for local governments and various parties are scrambling for their share. The governor is proposing major `reforms' creating an atmosphere of uncertainty that is discomforting for some. While lean times mean hunkering down, they are also the times for getting things in order preparing for a better future in which I am confident. What is needed on the board of the Fire District is an individual who is independent of the particular interests involved, one who truly represents the interest of the public. I have lived in the District for over three decades. I know the people. I know the territory. More important, I have served as an elected representative to two organizations that are a part of the local government matrix. I know how these organizations work, how they do their job but also defend their turf. I can see how they can work together for the greater good. |
