Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Ed Echeverria

Candidate for
Board Member to succeed SCOTT RODOWICK; Center Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have been attending CUSD Board meetings regularly for more than two years. Not many people attend the meetings and that's fine. If you can not attend, then it helps to have a good Board representative on your side, one who will speak for your children. Yes, teachers, staff, and administrators are all important. But, if it weren't for the children, there would be no need for the others. So our attention needs to be directed toward the children (my special interest group!) not personal goals or agendas of particular Board Members.

So as a Board Member, what are some of the things I will do for your children?

  • Set a good example for them by upholding the highest standards for honesty, values, integrity, and ethics.
  • Ensure they have the best educational environment in which to succeed.
  • Hold the district accountable to continue improving Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) scores.
  • Take full advantage of Federal Title 1 funds and applying the funds where needed instead of where they have always gone.
  • Ensure our school district is known for excellent student opportunities and success stories and not how dysfunctional the School Board is.
  • Ensure our district is prepared for the growth expected during the next 5 to 10 years.

Of all the candidates, I am the only one who has been involved at the District level. During the past two years I have been a member of the District Advisory Council (1 year Vice-Chair and 1 year Chair). I continue to be a member of the District Facilities Committee and have been a member of the committee to select the architect for the new Rex Fortune Elementary School. I have been a member of the former Center Junior High School SITE Council (Chair 2 years) and PTO. For many years I have been involved in my children's' schools (SITE Council, PTA/PTO), soccer activities (Coach, AYSO Regional Board Member), and Girl Scouts (received Outstanding Volunteer Award last year).

In order to effect change, one must know what to change. Again, I am the only candidate who has direct knowledge of the Board and their activities. That was apparent after the Candidate Forum sponsored by the Antelope Community Association on October 13. Check out my web site for reflections from that event.

I would appreciate your support and your vote on November 8.

Thank you, Ed Echeverrķa
