My goal as a City Council member will be to maintain and enhance the small town character that makes Mill Valley what Money Magazine says is one of the best places to live in America, and that drew Leslie and me here over 20 years ago. To achieve this goal, we need to ensure our elected officials make the best decisions for our city.

I firmly believe that the best decisions are made when diverse views are heard. Rich debate is where good government comes from. It comes from respecting the diversity of opinions, building consensus, and coming to common sense solutions.

When I was president of the Soccer Club, I chose board members whose intelligence and integrity I respected, even though I knew we might disagree on policy. As a member of the Planning Commission, I was willing to change my position when presented with new information that justified a change.

I would hope to bring this spirit of openness and community involvement to the Mill Valley City Council, and think our city government would be improved by more fully exploring and more openly debating potential solutions to these and other pressing issues:

  • Affordable housing
  • Enhanced emergency preparedness and fire safety
  • Better traffic and parking solutions
  • Development and land use
  • Continued fiscal health of the City

Please click the link from my homepage to see my position papers for details on how I propose to address these issues.

Since this campaign began, I have personally spoken with over 600 Mill Valley Residents. I have listened to their questions and issues. We have shared ideas, and I have learned. I am totally invigorated by this process. I love it. This true democracy!

When I am elected to the City Council, I will continue this dialog by holding quarterly town hall meetings, with no agendas, where anyone can come and discuss their dealings with the city - positive or negative. On issues of general importance I will hold subsequent public meetings with the appropriate department heads in order to reach resolution.

I see my role as a City Council member as being dedicated to benefit and to serve our community, and the people of Mill Valley. I hope you give me that opportunity.
