During my 8 years on the Town Council, I have been able to accomplish the following
A FISCALLY STRONG TOWN:
- Member of the Town Finance subcommittee, responsible for the review and analysis of the Town's annual budget. Over the last 12 years the State has taken over $3,570,000 of the Town's funds. Our reaction to the State's raids on our treasury was to build up our reserves to insulate our Town from the State's continued raids.
- Initiated the review and updating of Tiburon's cost recovery program resulting in developers and builders financially responsible for reimbursing the Town for the cost of the staff's time.
- Initiated a study and implemented a new fee on construction projects requiring they pay their fair share of street repair costs (over $500,000 per year).
- Sponsored the effort to quadruple the budget (to $1,000,000 this year) for street and drainage maintenance and repairs - without raising taxes.
- Without imposing additional taxes, Tiburon is now the most financially secure town in the County.
PRESERVING OPEN SPACE:
- Have in the past, and will continue to rigorously enforce Tiburon's (updated) General Plan and Zoning ordinances. These provide the tools to preserve open space, prohibit development on the ridgelines, and insure the character of neighborhoods remains intact.
ENHANCING THE COMMUNITY:
- Co-chaired the Downtown Fountain Committee. The Main Street fountain has been funded by a private donor and will be completed in May 2006.
- Obtained a $710,000 grant from the State to pay for the construction of our new Waterfront, a vital community asset.
- Actively support the Beautify Tiburon Boulevard Committee.
- Suggested and oversaw the planting of trees on Main Street.
- Worked to insure the creation of Zelinsky Park near Town Hall.
- Supported the construction of a new police station - which was completed on budget.
- Encouraged the creation of the fishing pier at Elephant Rock - which was completed on budget.
MANAGING THE TOWN:
- Actively pursued the settlement of litigation related to Main Street's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Coordinated the formation of an assessment district to fund the construction of a new and improved Main Street.
- Strongly supported amendments to the General Plan which provide for new design and development guidelines to preserve Tiburon's small town character.
- Chaired the Search Committee to hire Tiburon's new Town Manager.
- Initiated a dialogue with the Reed School District to resolve traffic and other problems of mutual concern and will continue to seek out creative solutions to this problem.
SUPPORTING TIBURON'S CHILDREN:
- Co-founded and served on the Belvedere-Tiburon Joint Recreation Committee for 22 years and have been the Council's liaison to the Committee for 8 years.
- Pushed for, and received, approval of the extended use of McKegney Green for soccer programs.
- Served on the sub-committee charged with resolving issues related to the expansion of St. Hilary's resulting in the construction of a new full size gym for our community's children.
- Helped initiate the popular and successful Afternoon Academy.
- Encouraged the creation of the Angel Island summer camps.
- Our family is a long time supporter of the Reed Schools Foundation.
