Classroom Size: In my opinion, keeping the 20 to 1 ratio in Kindergarten is the responsibility of the school district and the board. I was glad to see the Torrance community step up and raise the funds so quickly, however I would work to find the funds in our existing budget. I would also immediately look for funds to restore the elementary music program.

Budget Management: I would recommend a thorough top to bottom review of the budget. Funding major repairs and equipment replacement should be done over a number of years, by determining the life expectancy of the asset and putting aside a portion of the funds to replace it yearly. Before supporting another bond,I would require a full accounting of how the 1998 money was spent and a list of the sites and repairs still needed.

Swimming Pools: For many years various people have tried to provide swimming pools at one or more of the high schools. Each high school has a swim team, but no pool. Much smaller districts have found the means to provide a pool, so can we! A combination of community fund raising, city support and matching grants could accomplish this over the next few years. The City could utlize the pools in the summer and off hours to expand its classes and programs. Both students and citizens would benefit.
