Governing Board Member; Manhattan Beach Unified School District

My Qualifications:

• BA,Communications; Master of Fine Arts; Teacher CLAD Credential

• Previous board experience: In depth knowledge of all aspects of governing a school district. While on HBCSD board: built a new building (without overruns); kept a cash reserve of 12-18% of the budget; introduced a visual and performing arts program; began plans for the successful bond drive; Special Education Program- disputes were handled with little judicial intervention.

• Teaching Specialist: Currently I train over 125 LAUSD elementary teachers per year to integrate the Language Arts and Performing Arts Standards together.

• Guest Instructor: Chapman University- I teach for the teacher credentialing program.

• Workshops: I provide Professional Development Workshops on incorporation of the Performing Arts Standards into the curriculum. I previously lectured for the Lawndale School District and currently hold these workshops for LAUSD.

• Teacher: Until Sept. 2005 I was a teacher at South Shores Magnet Elementary School, a CA Distinguished School and recipient of the 2003 Dorothy Chandler BRAVO Award for excellence in the arts.While at South Shores I was: G.A.T.E Program Coordinator, on the School Site Council and PTO Teacher Rep.

• Business Experience: Previous founder/producer of the South Bay Children's Theater and past owner of The Learning Academy, an after school enrichment program. 1990-1995 developed and taught the MB Parks and Rec. Drama Program.

• Family: My husband,three children, and I have been involved in our schools for over seven years. I have worked with the Model UN, Swim Team, Water Polo, Drama and Chorus Boosters; helped on the PTSA; and am a Sandpiper alum.

Children: Braydon Holtzinger- a junior at UC Berkeley; former Student Body President at Mira Costa; Golden Boys State Delegate.

Colin Holtzinger: a senior at Mira Costa; Vice-president of his class for three years; National Honor Society; National Thespian Society; Substance Abuse Task Force.

Adria Holtzinger: a senior at Mira Cost; three years active participation in the Associated Student Body; two years Key Club President; Honor Roll; Substance Abuse Task Force, Swim Team Member.
