Public Safety: Prevention, Protection, Punishment No other candidate is better qualified or prepared than Nick Pacheco to tackle crime in our neighborhoods. As a councilmember, Nick implemented the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program to fight criminal activity proactively and he strengthened community policing by re-instating the senior lead officer program. As a prosecutor, Nick encouraged alternative sentencing for young and first-time offenders. Nick believes every resident of the district should lead a life free of fear from criminal activity and will work with the Mayor and Chief of Police to get more police back on our streets. Our Quality of Life: Prioritizing the Basics Providing quality basic City services to all residents of the 14th Council District is a priority for Councilman Nick Pacheco. He is committed to fixing our streets and side walks, fighting the scourge of graffiti, enforcing laws on illegal vendors and aggressively working to get the homeless permanent housing. In his first term on the City Council, Nick resurfaced nearly 40 miles of local streets, fixed 10 miles of sidewalks and brought 6 fully-equipped graffiti removal trucks for our district. In his next term, Councilman Nick Pacheco will work to make sure that the quality of issue in our neighborhoods will once again be the top priority of the local city council offices. The Future of Our Youth: Job Training Nick Pacheco recognizes that the LA City Council has little control over the Los Angeles Unified School District. However, he also recognizes that the LAUSD's failure in keeping our children in school and its inability to reduce the high drop out rate are problems we all must tackle. Nick recognizes that these failures are pushing our kids into permanent unemployment and worse + street gangs. In his first term as a Councilmember, Nick secured over $25 million for youth opportunities in the district and created the Boyle Heights Youth & Technology Center. Nick intends to duplicate this effort in the Northeast and create a Youth, Arts & Technology Center at the site of the old Bridewell Armory. Economic Development: Council District 14 Business Team Councilman Nick Pacheco believes that a good paying job will help turn things around in every part of the district. He will put together a Council District 14 Business Team that works with our current businesses to create more high paying jobs. Furthermore, this business team will assist our local community based organizations (CBOs) to increase their capacity to serve our neighborhoods. The goal is to create local good paying jobs for our local families to lift each neighborhood. |
