What I Believe

By D. Elena Kolbengtson

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Antelope Valley Joint Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Let's keep school district funds for education. We must keep in mind, daily, that we are tasked with shaping future leaders and must lead by example.
I believe in expanding opportunities for parental choice in education such as open enrollment, magnet schools, and voucher plans. With more parental involvement, there would be no need for parents to be taking their child out of class activities or lessons that are offensive or that are an affront to the religious, moral or political sentiments of the student's family. Textbooks should be relevant and current, and I will work with the district to make this happen. I am passionate about local businesses participation in education--it takes a village. Only capable, qualified and proven teachers should be given a job for life. We must keep in mind what is at stake here--our future leaders. Because we all have a stake in educating our students, all must be accountable--students, teachers and most of all, parents. I ask for your vote on November 8th.
