CINDY ISER--BIOGRAPHY

Cindy Iser was elected to the Board of Education in 2001, following years of involvement in School District matters. During her tenure on the Board, Cindy has been devoted to improving educational programs for all students while emphasizing public accountability and transparency in decision-making. She has worked tirelessly to improve the District's communication with neighboring homeowners, parents and teachers. Cindy's efforts in fostering collaboration between the local cities and the District have resulted in increased financial support for the District's educational and extracurricular programs at all levels. Cindy currently sits on the District's Curriculum Council and Facilities Committee and she meets regularly to discuss issues of concern with parent leaders, teachers and students. Cindy currently serves as Vice-President of the Board.

Cindy is a product of California public schools, having attended Portola Middle School and Birmingham High School. In 1977, Cindy received a Bachelor's Degree with High Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

While a student at UCSB, Cindy was active in community affairs, being twice elected to the Isla Vista Community Council and appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to the Municipal Advisory Council. As a member of the MAC, she served as liaison with the University administration and the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. Following graduation, Cindy worked in Sacramento as a legislative intern for the County Supervisors Association of California. While there, she compiled the California County Fact Book and worked on various legislative initiatives on behalf of the counties. Cindy entered the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1978, where she became an Associate Editor of the Hastings' Law Review. While in law school, Cindy served as a law clerk for the Department of Social Services in San Francisco, and in her final year of law school, Cindy served as an Intern to the Honorable Joan Dempsey Klein, of the California Court of Appeal.

Cindy's legal career began in 1981 at a private law firm, where she specialized in complex corporate and real estate transactions. In 1985, Cindy accepted a position as Associate General Counsel at a leading Southern California company. In 1992, Cindy was promoted to General Counsel, where she was responsible for guiding the legal affairs of over 100 operating subsidiaries. Cindy was instrumental in obtaining her company's financial support and construction expertise for the Hill `an Dale Family Learning Center in Santa Monica, a pre-school, where she served on the Board of Trustees from 1988-1990.

Cindy left corporate law practice in 1994 to devote more time to raising her two children. Zach is currently a student at New York University, majoring in music and business. Andy is a senior at Calabasas High School, where he is active in the music and theater programs and the Coyote golf team. Cindy has long been a dedicated supporter of music and the arts in our schools. Cindy continues to practice law in Calabasas. In her spare time, she enjoys playing golf with her husband, Larry, and running with their retired Guide Dog, Canyon.
