I'm Still Listening

By Paul Laurence Helzer

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Bellflower Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
DON'T NEGLECT...RE-ELECT!!!!
When I first ran for office 4 years ago, I made a promise to listen to the Parents, Teachers, Students and Employees of the Bellflower School District. Over my term in office, I have done my best to do just that.
  • I voted for a full-time Sheriff's Officer for our High Schools to be Safe & Secure
  • I voted down the Combo Classes and helped keep the 20 - 1 ratio in our classrooms
  • I worked with our maintenance staff to buy and maintain natural gas buses so our kids could breathe easier
  • I worked on and voted for a budget that kept all our Teachers and employees working without layoffs
  • I worked to remove sodas and junk food from our schools replacing them with nutritious snacks
  • I worked with Teachers to give them more time and help with with classes and safe parking areas
  • I worked to maintain clean and well-groomed school sites that you can be proud of
  • I was instrumental in developing pathways for Students to local Colleges
  • I worked tiredlessly at reducing violence and dropout rates in our schools

These are just a few of the things that listening to you has allowd me to accomplish. But, don't just take my word for it! Please ask your Principals, Secretaries, Drivers, Janitors, Grounds Keepers, Teachers and Coaches what they think. My record speaks for itself. Parents, Mayors, Council Persons and neighborhood Pastors will back me up when it comes to the overall improvement of our schools!

I have worked hard on an excellent team to give you a School District with:

  • Full reserves in the banks
  • Balanced Budget
  • No school closures
  • No employee or Teacher layoffs
  • 20 - 1 Teacher/student ratio
  • Award winning schools
  • No new taxes, loans or school bonds

Very few of our neighboring districts can "claim the same" of our stellar job over the last 4 years! But the job's not done yet...

We must continue to improve our School testing scores, we need more shop and vocational arts programs. We need more Partnerships with our Community Businesses and more Parental Involvement. We must keep our guard up and maintain the safety and security of our Students and District Employees. We need to Partner with the City for completion of our Stadium/Sports Complex and we desperately need a state of the art Performing Arts Center for our Students.

Thanks to listening to you, I believe I have a good job started and I want to finish it! If you agree; vote for ME on November 8, 2005.
