VISION AND GOALS

By Maximino S. "Max" Duran

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District

MY VISION AND GOALS FOR IMPROVING OUR DISTRICT
Over the past year, I have been privileged to serve as your School Board Trustee. Much has been said about me, but those who know me best know that I bring to the table, vision, knowledge, experience, leadership, frugality and transparency. I have been accused of micro-managing the District but the truth is that I want to insure that District employees comply with all the requirements of the Education Code. My goals are simple:

  • Restore public confidence.
  • Focus on the accreditation of every district school.
  • Improve our education by forming a united, dedicated and collaborative school leadership that is focused on elevating academic excellence.
  • Restore discipline as a necessary precondition to creating a safe learning environment.
  • Insure that teachers are teaching in their credentialed core subjects and are willing to use varied teaching strategies to accommodate all learning styles.
  • Minimize the practice of hiring teachers with emergency credentials. Assist them to become fully credentialed by fostering programs of continued education and restore mentor programs.
  • Restore a culture that supports positive character traits such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, good citizenship, fairness and compile programs that prevent bullying.
  • Reduce overcrowding at our campuses.
  • Engage our students in a challenging educational environment.
  • Work diligently toward securing approval by the State Allocation Board of our Hardship Application to construct a portion of our new high school.
  • Work with other elected officials to explore options at re-opening the Gym.
  • Foster an atmosphere of learning, not only for the brightest of our students but create programs to assist those at-risk or having learning difficulties.
  • Improve our employee's moral.
  • Open dialogs between parents, staff and the Board to exchange ideas on educating our students.
  • Expand our Deferred Maintenance Program to correct hazards and unsafe conditions that exist at our campuses.
  • Increase Developer Fees to the MAXIMUM level possible.
  • STOP DEFICIT SPENDING and live within our budget.
  • Finally, we must restore Class Size Reduction with full funding to our classrooms.
