Improve the quality of education in our schools Prevention & Intervention programs for gangs Graffiti, Beautification Projects/Affordable HousingSince the Los Angeles Unified School District is a separate entity from the City of Los Angeles, I would like to see that it continues to focus on improving the quality of education in our schools. We should review the "No child left behind program" and make sure those who qualify take full advantage of it. The education of children begins at home and parents should fully participate in making sure that their children grow up to be respectable citizens. LAUSD should provide after school enrichment programs to keep our children off the streets. Our community continues to be plagued by gang and violence. Gang intervention and prevention will keep our children from falling into the wrong hands. A well-lit community is a great deterrent to crime. I would push for more street lighting programs so that sidewalks are safe for pedestrians. The creation of Pedestrian Oriented Districts will not only boost the economy in many areas but also keep the criminal activity down. Communities showing signs of graffiti is an indication that nobody is minding the area. I would encourage a zero tolerance of graffiti and encourage community based organizations to assist in eradicating the problem. I would like to review the Inclusionary Zoning issue and focus on having more homes built in communities who are in dire need of them. I would also encourage developers to pay into a trust fund equivalent to the value of 15% required by the ordinance if they refuse to allow 15% of their development to affordable housing. Beautification programs should be encourage, one block at a time, to make communities attractive to investors and ultimately push for smart growth. |
