Candidate for Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I will continue to support and promote our kids/students and the CCUSD. It is with my sincere gratitude and vote of confidence that I ask for your continued support.
Dear Friends,

Four years ago I decided that our Culver City schools could improve even more. I had high hopes that my experience as a teacher, parent, and community activist could be utilized to enhance our district's educational excellence for our students. After talking to hundreds of voters and sharing my vision for our community's future, I was humbled when Culver City made history by electing me to this important and prestigious position. It's because of your hard work and dedication that I was given this opportunity, and I never forget it.

In November, I am once again seeking your support in my bid for re-election. The theme of my election in 2001, in fact my mantra throughout my term, has been and continues to be "It's All About The Kids." With each decision, my primary focus has been the impact on our students. With this in mind, we've accomplished a great deal over the past 4 years. I'm most proud of the progress we've made, realizing the tough economic times that our district has weathered. There were many calls to cut programs (including our award winning Academy of Visual and Performing Arts), fire classified employees, eliminate school buses, and much more. I'm proud to have stood firm in supporting our teachers and in every situation, demanding that our economic problems not impact the educational opportunities of our students.

Currently I co-chair the 47th Assembly District Education Commission for Assemblywoman Karen Bass. I am on the Congressional Advisory Commission for Congresswoman Diane E. Watson. I've worked with elected officials at every level of government to ensure that our district and our students are privy to every opportunity that the state and government have to offer, as well as working with my colleagues on the board to ensure that resources are used and spent efficiently. The pursuit of educational excellence for our children has prompted my long term commitment

Of course there have been great challenges, but even in these tough times, our district has continued to meet and exceed our community's high standards. Our Middle School was named 1 of 4 California Model Schools to Watch. I sit on the district committee that formulated a new standards-based arts program in our elementary schools. We have worked hard to bring full day kindergarten to Culver City. Our Youth Health Center continues to exist thanks to the partnership with the Venice Family Clinic. I just recently introduced the Claire Foundation as another partnership opportunity, promising to provide additional resources and services to address the needs of our students and families. I also introduced another partnership and resource opportunity with the California Highway Patrol. And just this year, Culver City High School was named a California Distinguished School.

  • I am pleased and privileged to have been voted the 2005 "Democrat of the Year" by the 47th AD. (2005)

  • It is an honor to have received the LAAAWPAC "Power Pac Award" for Educational Innovation. (2004)

  • I am also very proud to have been honored by Office Depot for my consistent "Commitment to Educational Excellence." (2003)

  • I was paid a great tribute when I received the "Distinguished Service" Award from Los Angeles County Office of Education for Educational Accomplishment. (2003)

  • The receipt of the "Culver City Service to Education Award" is a mark of respect that I truly value. (2002)

I plan to continue this important commitment over the next four years, but can only do it with your help.

In order to win re-election in November I need:

- Your Endorsement + In 2001 I was privileged to have the support of many Culver City leaders.
- Your Help + In order to win, I need to share this message with all the citizens of Culver City. We can only do this with your commitment to walking your neighborhood, talking to your friends, and calling voters.
- Your Financial Contribution + Campaigns cost money. In order to be competitive, we need to buy brochures, lawn signs, walk lists, and we need to do mailings. Please give generously.

With your help and continued support, we can continue the work that we started over the past four years. With all of us working together, there is no limit to the successes that our students can achieve.

It is with my sincere gratitude and vote of confidence that I ask for your support.

Thanking You In Advance, Saundra Davis M.A. Please send Contributions to Committee To Elect Saundra Davis ID# 1236500 10736 Jefferson Blvd. # 806 Culver City, CA 90230
