Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Northern Humboldt Union High School District

I spent the first 26 years of my life in Southern California where I graduated from Long Beach State College as a Mechanical Engineer. After graduation I worked for a time at McDonnell Douglas Aviation and then moved to Arcata in 1969 to pursue graduate studies at what was then Humboldt State College. During my post graduate program, I became a partner in several private ventures including Arcata Transit Authority (now known as Adventures Edge), Blue Puma Outdoor Equipment (now known as Kokatat), Six River Float Trips (the first local river trip company). I later helped to start Yakima Products which the third owners have moved to Portland Oregon. I served on the Arcata Planning Commission for 13 years, and presently serve on the HSU Business Partners Forum and the Industrial Technology Advisory Committee. I am semi-retired but seem to keep very busy providing input to small local businesses including Marimba One here in Arcata. I live with my wife, Margaret, and step daughter, Megan, in Arcata and enjoy all of the outdoor activities that our area has to offer including backpacking, fishing, cycling and river sports. Megan graduated from Arcata High and the University of Oregon, and it was our interest in her education that spurred my interest in the school board. However, until I stopped working full time, I did not feel it was possible for me take on the responsibility of being a school board member. Now that I have more "free time", I believe that I can give this position the attention it deserves.
