Communication & AccountabilityBy Shane BrintonCandidate for Governing Board Member; Northern Humboldt Union High School District | |

Parents, teachers, & students are at the core of my educational philosophy. If we want our young people to be getting the best education possible, everybody needs to be involved in the process. Obviously this needs to be a practical and structured process, but it must also be a creative and holistic one that involves parents, teachers, and students in an integral way. We must also reach out to the community as a whole; the school board has to be accountable to the voters, but more than that, we must do our best to create an environment that will foster the growth of productive citizens with strong critical thinking skills. This can't happen if the school board is dormant, or beholden to the administration. Now is the time to be proactive. We have to talk to parents about their children's strengths and weaknesses. We have to talk to talk to teachers about what their needs are at the classroom level, and the bargaining table. We have to talk to students about what they want to get out of their high school experience. Our young people deserve no less. |
