Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Big Lagoon Union School District; 4 Year Term

My name is Diane Berry and I am running for the office of Big Lagoon School Board Trustee. I have served on the board for 15 years and would like to see our school continue with the high quality of education we have always provided.

We have lived in Humboldt County for 28 years. Our first 7 years were spent in Southern Humboldt. We have lived in our current home in Trinidad for 21 years. All of my children attended and graduated from Big Lagoon School. They have all gone on to graduate, some with honors, from McKinleyville High School and they have all attended college. Our second son graduated from Humboldt State University with a teaching credential.

Since 1991 I have been employed, part time, at the Orick Post Office as Postmaster Relief. I also volunteer at the monthly Orick Senior Lunch. I enjoy people and interacting with them.

My grandson attends Big Lagoon School. He is a Little Person and has some special needs. All of the school staff have done an excellent job dealing with his differences and he has intergraded well into the school. (Of course, he is very outgoing and fits in well wherever he goes.)

I enjoy my position and would like to continue serving the people of our district. We have had some major changes these past few years. We have recently hired a new Administrator and many of our staff have changed to new or different positions in the district. We need to continue to focus on our students and on keeping Big Lagoon School the local "Distinguished" school that it is now.
