Norma Santiago Receives Endorsement from The Tahoe Area Sierra Club formally endorsed Norma Santiago in her bid to represent South Lake Tahoe residents on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors District 5. Santiago, who has lived in South Lake Tahoe for more than 20 years, has always considered preserving and protecting Lake Tahoe essential to a good quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The Sierra Club recognizes that Norma Santiago will bring a "fresh voice" and new ideas for solutions to the problems facing the community such as traffic, economic stagnation and deterioration of Lake Tahoe's famous water clarity. A primary piece of Santiago's platform includes the use of the concept of `eco-nomics' to diversify the economic base in Lake Tahoe while being respectful of the social, moral and economic responsibilities to keep Lake Tahoe clear. In reaction to the endorsement, Santiago states, "I'm honored by the endorsement of my candidacy by the Sierra Club. It demonstrates our joint commitment toward building economic stability and opportunity while protecting this jewel of the Sierra. I look forward to working to help create a prosperous, environmentally sound community for all of us." The South Lake Tahoe Teachers Association proudly endorses Santiago because she has proven her commitment to supporting quality public education in District 5 by working with other community leaders to find creative solutions to address gaps in funding. The Teachers Association also recognizes Santiago shares their values as demonstrated by her stated vision and previous efforts toward building a strong, economically diverse community that supports a good quality of life for its residents including working families. |
