I am very proud of this community and would consider it an honor to serve this district for four more years!!!Hello, my name is Dan Heath and I'm currently a "trustee" for the Pioneer Union School District. For those of you that don't know me, I moved to this county in 1988. I worked for various temporary agencies until I found a job with a local propane company. I filled cylinders, dispatched trucks, and did general accounting for them. In 1994 my wife and I started a "Mom and POP" propane business, 49'R Propane Inc.. We have worked hard in growing that business into one of the largest independent companies in El Dorado County. My wife and I were married in 1991 and we have three boys together. Philip attends Mt. Creek whereas Brian and Jon attend Grizzly Pines. We built our home towards the end of 1997 in Somerset, just below Grizzly Flats. We really enjoy the rural lifestyle that South County offers. We are especially impressed with this districts school system, which is one of the reasons I decided to join Pioneer Unions School Board four years ago when asked if I would be interested. I was also very interested in the budget process and I have to admit, that is what I enjoy the most. I will continue to make decisions that I feel are in the best interest of our kids, staff, and community. With the fiscal problems our district has faced these last four years, some of those decisions have been very tough. California's economy combined with our declining enrollment has forced us to look at every budget item line by line. Previous boards were conservative and I feel we have maintained that tradition. Our students still receive top notch instructions from a very competent and energetic staff. We have also been able to maintain an excellent arts program, award winning music program, as well as being able to continue offering sports and field trips. Currently our students have excelled in its API scores, Western Slopes Honor Band, and even an 8th grade football championship. Grizzly Pines and Mt. Creek has Won the "Distinguished School" award and Pioneer has been an honorable mention. We are in the process of validating Grizzly Pines and Pioneer for that award this year. The success of this district is due to the efforts of many community members in a common united purpose. Our PTO, Music Coalition, and Site Councils have all come together in support of our children and our children have responded with pride, dedication, and numerous accomplishments... I am very proud of this community and would consider it an honor to serve this district for four more years!!! Daniel Heath |
