Stop Polluting Beaches

By Gary E. Snelson

Candidate for Council Member, Council; City of Redondo Beach; District 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Every time it rains pollution drains directly on to the sand where our children play. This has got to be fixed.
Pollution of our beaches has lead to frequent closings, which happens every time it rains. There is a problem with a system that allows such pollution directly on to the sand where our children play. In addition, the pollution leads to the death of marine wildlife, and contamination of that life which has survived. We owe it to ourselves, and the future generations, to prevent the water run-off which causes much of the contamination. The structure of our water drainage system needs to be reevaluated, and revamped, so that pollutants from our streets, lawns and treatment centers do not end up directly where our children are playing and swimming.

With some strategic planning by the council, and help from the private sector, our shoreline can be brought back to its pristine state, teeming with marine wildlife that cannot survive here today.
