Why Bob Sibilia is running for Calabasas City Council
Dear Friend & Neighbor:

We have all come a long way since our community became a city in 1991. Children that I once coached in soccer, who could barely run and kick a soccer ball at the time, will be voting in our upcoming March 8, 2005 City Council election. It has been my honor and privilege to serve Calabasas over the years as Councilmember, Mayor and now Parks and Recreation Commissioner. I ask for your support of my campaign to return to the City Council and to help me in my goal to make Calabasas the premier community in Southern California in which to raise a family. This goal encompasses the interests of all citizens, assuring strong property values, in a safe, clean community with leadership that adheres to sound fiscal policy.

My wife Ellen and I moved to Calabasas in 1991 to provide our children with an excellent public school education, in a safe, small-town atmosphere. Our girls attended Bay Laurel Elementary School, A.E. Wright, A.C. Stelle Middle Schools and now Calabasas High School. I will seek a stronger, cooperative tie with the Las Virgenes Unified School District to collectively work for our children and community.

I will bring family oriented leadership back to our City Council. As Parks and Recreation Commissioner since 2001, I helped develop the Parks Master Plan, increasing the number of parks in our community. I also supported the now successful joint-use agreement with the LVUSD which has provided badly needed playing fields and recreational resources for our city's youth and adults, while preserving our precious open space for passive, unintrusive uses.

I have served as principal for the day at Bay Laurel and A.E. Wright schools and also provide pro bono services as judge in our unique and innovative Teen Court program. As Mayor I presided over the grand opening of our Agoura/Calabasas Community Center, our first city owned library, our first city run pre-school, Creekside Klubhouse, and the Bark Park.

Many vital Council decisions involving litigation and real property issues are made in closed session, out of public view. As an attorney with 18 years of civil litigation experience in California and Hawaii and as a licensed California real estate broker I will use my expertise to make informed, educated decisions, always with the best interests of the people of Calabasas in mind.

Traffic congestion remains unacceptable. I will not bow down to developers who prioritize profits, increase traffic and adversely impact our valued quality of life in Calabasas. Consistent with our long fought battle and victory against Ahmanson Ranch, I will continue my long stance of supporting only slow, controlled growth.

I seek office unencumbered by commitment to any special interest group or individual. I pledge to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, respectful of both colleagues and opponents and receptive to the ideas of our citizens. Any support you may offer is greatly appreciated, such as allowing me to put up a lawn sign or by just spreading the word to your friends and neighbors.

Please contact me to discuss any issue. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote.

Sincerely,
Bob Sibilia
Calabasas Parks and Recreation Commissioner
