  • Redondo Beach Activism
My son started school in Redondo Beach as a kindergartener in 2001. At that time, my wife and I met with his teacher and the principal and sought to be usefully involved in our son's education and Redondo schools. We worked in the classroom, outside the classroom, and became involved in analyzing, and ultimately defeating, the Heart of the City (aka "Heartburn of the City") debacle.

It seemed that no one was championing the needs of Redondo schools during that period, including the RBUSD. The Heart plan made no provision for new or expanded schools for the many students that would have come with the up to 5,000 housing units. The Heart plan recognized, and ignored, the environmental impact on the local area. I fought meeting after meeting after meeting to get the City to include a new school in the project (with funding) and also to get the City to recognized the extreme increase in traffic, noise, and air pollution along the Beryl corridor. I contested the EIR findings under CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) to make my point even stronger.

Since then, I've kept a wary eye on the actions of local government that can negatively impact Redondo schools, and, I've kept active at my son's school. I look forward to applying my activism for the entire district's benefit.

  • Economic Skills
As a professional economist with over 20 years experience, I routinely work on project budgets in the 100's of millions of dollars. I am currently working on a large project that exceeds $1B, a project that has annual debt service in excess of the RBUSD's entire budget.

I am an expert in budgeting, planning and analysis, as well as, project management. I look forward to applying my skills and experience as a Board member.

  • Regulatory and Governmental Experience
Over the past 20 years I have worked extensively with Federal, State and local governments. In fact, I have just returned from testifying at the State of California. I will use my experience to manage the government relationships better, and to secure additional funds for our district. Grant writers are a relatively abundant and inexpensive resource for the district, and the district should seek more revenue sources.

  • Educational Experience
I hold BS and MS degrees, and have taught at the high school, college, and university level. I served as an adjunct professor of business, teaching the skills of budgeting, economics and finance to adult MBA students.
