ABOUT CYRUS KEMPBy Cyrus KempCandidate for Council Member; City of Monrovia | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Why you should vote for Cyrus KempMy Name is Cyrus Kemp. I have been a resident of the City of Monrovia since 1979. I am seeking a position as a member of the Monrovia City Council. I proudly and honorably served my country on active duty in the United States Navy for three years, six months. My education is in business and my employment was in management positions and small business ownership. I am currently retired so I can and will commit the time and energy necessary make a positive contribution to the community. I have spent the last ten years educating myself about how city government under California law should operate and how Monrovia currently does operate. I have personally attended and participated in as many or more Monrovia City Council meetings than most of the current Council members. My comments to the City Council have brought about many changes that have been beneficial to the community. One of the biggest challenges facing Monrovia is the need for competent leadership that will also guarantee the Community's right to self-govern. This leadership should come from a City Council that is responsive to the Community it serves and one that surrounds itself with highly qualified Staff that is not Political in the Community. City Councils and other City Agencies exist to aid in the conduct of the Community's Business. The Community does not surrender their right to self-govern to Agencies that serve them, and in delegating authority, does not give their Public Servants the right to ignore or disregard their wishes. The City Council needs to work to ensure that new growth improves the economy and environment of the existing community. They need to avoid large-scale redevelopment projects that will erode Monrovia's historic, small-town character. A City Council should respond to the Community's input by placing those items on a future agenda for discussion and action. A City Council should respect the intent of its Voters and not interpret the language of a ballot issue to suit special interests. If you elect Cyrus Kemp to serve You he promises to:
