Full Biography for Maria Christine Grunwald-Agazaryan
Candidate for |

|
Maria Grunwald Agazaryan will arrive at the Community College Board with previous experience: During her time at Valley College, Maria's active participation in student government at both the college and district level culminated in her election to the LACCD Board of Trustees, as the student member. Maria's love of public service began much earlier than that, however. Her introduction to politics was volunteering on the No on the Recall Campaign for State Senator David Roberti. Since then she has been involved in innumerable educational, civic, and charitable organizations, including the education committee of the Mid Town NoHo Neighborhood Council, Rotary International, the (LAUSD) academic decathlon, and National Women's Political Caucus. Having benefited so much from her own public education, Maria is passionate about allowing others these same opportunities. She looks forward to the challenges of once again serving on the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees, and continuing her career in education. The experiences she had traveling to such locales as Australia and China and her family's need for her to work after school and every summer vacation has given Maria the integrity and understanding necessary to be an effective leader in our multicultural community. One of her professional highlights was the opportunity to return to her middle school, Walter Reed, to tutor sixth and seventh graders as part of the STEP program; an educational partnership between Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Los Angeles Community College District. A first generation American born within a stone's throw of New York City's East River, Maria Grunwald Agazaryan has lived in Los Angeles since she was three years old. Her passion for bettering our community colleges stems from being a product of our public school system. Graduating Cum Laude, from Los Angeles Valley College and also earning her B.A. in History from the University of California, Los Angeles set Maria firmly on the path of working for others through education. Maria resides in North Hollywood with her husband and two children. |
