Measure ABy Martin D. GeimerCandidate for Council Member; City of Beverly Hills | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Measure A is on the ballot and will be voted on by the residents of Beverly Hills. This has been a very divisive issue as there are strong feelings on both sides. This measure was placed on the ballot as the result of a petition signed by over 3,000 citizens of Beverly Hills. These concerned citizens felt their voice was not heard in the negotiations for a large luxury hotel, The Montage, to be built on Beverly Drive, in the business triangle of Beverly Hills.I believe in Representative Government at every level of government. It's my considered opinion that the City Council of Beverly Hills has not upheld the principle of Representative Government. Representative government means that someone is listening, and like you I want to be heard. I believe you deserve a representative who will listen to and act upon your concerns, suggestions and thoughts. You deserve a voice, and I will be that voice. Regarding Measure A, I feel very strongly that 3100 residents of our city signed a petition to put this on the ballot for a reason. In talking with, and listening to many people, it is clear to me that many feel they were not heard when they raised questions about the hotel. This is an issue that is dividing our city and I feel it is right to have a vote and hear the true voice of the people. Then, and only then, can we move forward and plan our future TOGETHER. This is true representative government and that is what I believe in. It is clear from the mere existence of Measure A that a significant number of the citizens of Beverly Hills think that there wasn't enough consideration given to all the aspects and all the ramifications of this project. I do not support the Montage in its present form. I do not support interfering with the democratic process of petition signing. Representative Government allows and encourages freedom of expression and open exchange of ideas. Your voice is about to be heard and I am listening. I feel strongly that we must bring both sides together. I think the city could have gotten a much better deal. I will not support it until or unless a consensus is drawn between the residents of Beverly Hills and the other parties who have a vested interest in this project. I will support the will of the people. Measure A on the ballot is your chance to use YOUR voice. |
